Instructor Orientation

Test Your Zoom System

Use the Zoom menu (Left button, Mute) to test your speakers and microphone to make sure they are working. Use high-quality microphones such as Logitech. You may use the Audio Settings menu to increase the micro volume so that the participants can hear you very well.
Make sure you know how to control the student screen to help them on their screen. Some students may have license issues or don't have the software yet. You may allow them to work on your screen until they resolve their license problem.
Test the projector if you are in-class. Use the heater if it is cold. Don't allow the students to shiver or get hot. Close the bathroom door if you are teaching in LAB 4.

Register the Students

While the students are getting in, it is a good time to register the students. If they are attending a course for the first time at ETC, use Add Student to add them to ETC database. Then, use Register to add them to your class. You may search for a student using his mobile number or his name. You will find these menu items on the ETC menu. On the ETC website, click on Links. Under ETC, click on ETC admin page to log in to your ETC account.

Take Attendance

If you are teaching corporate students/private take attendance. Some managers may demand the attendance sheet at the end of the class. There is a menu item Take Attendance on the ETC menu.

Know Your Students

Once everyone has settled in, start by having each student introduce themselves, names, occupations, what motivated them to join this class, and how they heard about us. Discuss some relevant issues with the participants to start developing their sense of belongingness.

Introduce Yourself

Tell the students about yourself to make them feel they know you.

About ETC

Started in 2005. We quickly became the top training center in all the courses we offer. Use Google or Edge to show them how to search and find ETC. Ex: "Revit Courses Lebanon" "AutoCAD Courses Lebanon". Test this first to see which search engine gives the best results before you try it in front of the students.

Schedule + Course Intro

Visit the site. We are Autodesk and Rhino Authorized Training Center. We issue international certificates. Use the Schedule to show them how to search for the course and join online. Click on the course name to display the table of contents and show them how to download the exercise files.

Free Online Exam

On the table of contents, there is a link to the course free exam. They should take it at the end of the course to assess themselves for free. They may take the exam a few categories at a time. No password, no limit, and automatic results. They should repeat and research the questions till mastery. The exam is not a requirement for the certificate unless dictated otherwise by the corporates who sponsored the course.

Reference Page

Show them our reference page. We hire many of our students and send them SMSs to apply for jobs at potential employers.

Legal Issues

Show them the legal page and express the severity of recording and giving away our courses. To keep watching our online course and receive recordings, they have to fill in the boxes at the bottom and send you by whatsapp a photo. No need to sign it. Once they all send you this, signal to us to send them the recordings.

Attending Online

If your students plan to attend online, go to ETC Home page. Click on the [Online] link under ETC Services. Show them the two screen configuration. This will make the online course very effective. Onse screen for Zoom and the instructor and another for the application.

Start the Course

Start the course. Remember: Tell them what you are going to tell them. Tell them. Tell them what you have just told them. Use CTRL to highlight menus. Use Wordpad to type your explanation in English to make sure your explanation is clear. Share screens frequently. It's important to keep pace with all students, allowing them to observe each action. Remember, effective teaching is like filling a bottle; pouring too quickly will result in spillage.

Quizzes

Sometimes it is a good idea to give them speed tests at the beginning to ensure they are practicing the lessons. For example, in Revit, I ask them to draw the bungalow the next time in 20 minutes. In AutoCAD, I ask them to do all the exercises in Lesson 3 in 20 minutes to build speed.
