Claude AI for Structural Engineers course Lebanon

Claude AI for Structural Engineers: From Drawings to Design, Faster

Spend your hours on engineering, not on data entry, re-typing, and report formatting. In this hands-on 10-hour program, structural engineers learn to use Claude AI to read architectural drawings, extract geometry from DXF files, build and check design calculations, automate Revit and ETABS/SAP2000 models, and produce calculation reports and site correspondence in a fraction of the usual time.

You keep the engineering judgment. Claude takes the repetition. This course does not claim that AI designs structures. It teaches a disciplined workflow in which every AI output is verified by the engineer before it is used, and verification is practised in every session.

Duration: 10 hours (5 sessions x 2 hours)

Teaching Methodology: Hands on

Course Mode: Blended – Face-to-face or online via Zoom

OVERVIEW

Structural engineers lose a large share of every project to work that is not engineering: re-entering grids and columns from architectural drawings, rebuilding the same calculation sheets, modelling frames element by element, and formatting reports and RFI responses. This course shows how to hand that work to Claude AI while keeping full control of the design.

The entire course is built on one real project, a 4-storey reinforced concrete building supplied as DWG/DXF and PDF drawings. Participants take it from architectural drawings to structured geometry data, verified calculations, an automatically generated analysis or BIM model, and a design report. In the final session, they repeat the full workflow on a new building on their own.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, participants will be able to use Claude as a disciplined engineering assistant, build and verify design calculations with every assumption visible, extract structural data from PDF and DXF drawings, generate Python and Excel tools without prior programming experience, drive Revit and ETABS/SAP2000 through their APIs, and produce professional engineering documentation quickly.

AUDIENCE

Practising structural and civil engineers, BIM engineers working on structural teams, structural design offices and consultants, and final-year civil engineering students who want to apply AI to real design workflows.

PREREQUISITES

Working knowledge of structural analysis and reinforced concrete or steel design, and basic AutoCAD. Knowledge of Revit or ETABS/SAP2000 is an advantage. No programming experience is required. Participants need a laptop and a Claude account; a paid Claude plan is recommended for file analysis and longer working sessions.

MAIN TOOLS USED

Claude AI, AutoCAD and DXF files, Python with the ezdxf library, Microsoft Excel, Autodesk Revit with pyRevit or Dynamo, and ETABS/SAP2000.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL CREATE

  • A Claude Project set up for a structural job, with design basis, code, and materials as standing context
  • A verification checklist for AI-generated engineering output
  • A verified beam design calculation and a reusable Excel design sheet
  • A Python script that extracts grids, levels, and columns from a DXF file into a structured table
  • A script that generates the structural model automatically in Revit or ETABS/SAP2000
  • A capstone design package: geometry table, preliminary layout, key calculations, model, and design report

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain where AI adds value in a structural office and where it fails, and apply a verification routine to every AI output.
  • Write structured prompts that state the design code, units, materials, inputs, and assumptions explicitly.
  • Produce step-by-step load takedowns and member design calculations with formulas and code references visible.
  • Convert verified calculations into reusable Excel design sheets and short Python tools.
  • Extract grids, levels, columns, walls, and spans from PDF and DXF drawings, and measure the accuracy of each method.
  • Generate structural models automatically in Revit or ETABS/SAP2000 from extracted data.
  • Interpret analysis output to identify governing combinations, critical members, and anomalies.
  • Draft design basis reports, calculation reports, technical letters, and RFI responses in English and Arabic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will I learn in the Claude AI for Structural Engineers course?
You will learn to use Claude AI to read architectural plans and elevations, extract grids, levels, and columns from DXF files, build and verify design calculations, generate Excel design sheets, automate Revit and ETABS/SAP2000 models through their APIs, and produce calculation reports, design basis reports, and RFI responses.

Can Claude design a structure on its own?
No. Claude accelerates data extraction, modelling, calculations, and documentation, but the structural system, code compliance, and final design remain the engineer's responsibility. Every session in this course teaches how to verify AI output before using it.

Who should take this course?
This course is designed for practising structural and civil engineers, BIM engineers working on structural teams, and final-year civil engineering students who want to apply AI to real design workflows.

Do I need programming experience?
No programming experience is required. Claude writes the Python and Excel tools, and the course teaches you how to run, test, and adapt them. Working knowledge of structural analysis and design and basic AutoCAD are required; Revit or ETABS/SAP2000 knowledge is an advantage.

Is the course available online?
Yes, the course can be attended face-to-face at ETC in Dbayeh or online via Zoom in a blended format.

How long is the course?
The course is 10 hours of hands-on practical training, delivered across 5 sessions of 2 hours each. An optional sixth session for capstone review extends it to 12 hours.

Which tools are used in the course?
The course uses Claude AI, AutoCAD and DXF files, Python, Excel, Revit with pyRevit or Dynamo, and ETABS/SAP2000. Participants choose a Revit track or an ETABS/SAP2000 track for the automation session.

Do you provide certificates?
Yes, participants receive a Certificate of Completion from ETC Expertise Training Center, a licensed school accredited by the Ministry of Education, upon successful completion of the course. For more information, visit our certification roadmap.
