GIS Geographic Information Systems

What is GIS?

GIS stands for Geographic Information System. It is a computer-based system that stores data attached to related maps. This data can be analyzed and manipulated to give information about specific areas. Data can be spatial or non-spatial. For example, the location of the Pyramids in Egypt and the Jeitta grotto in Lebanon are spatial data. The roads that lead to these sites and the district maps are also spatial data. On the other hand, the opening hours and the telephone numbers are non-spatial data. We integrate and analyze such data using the software ArcGIS.
